Revised OSHA regulations driving arc flash hazard safety:

 

The new arc flash requirements in 29 CFR 1910.269 & 1926 Subpart V became law in July 2014.

 

Per the new ruling, power generation, transmission, and distribution employers MUST:

  • Identify employees exposed to hazards from flames or electric arcs.
  • Estimate incident heat energy or arc hazards.
  • Provide and mandate use of proper personal protective equipment (flame resistant & arc rated PPE).

Delayed enforcement deadlines:


* January 1, 2015: Arc Flash Calculations

* April 1, 2015: Provide PPE


Existing 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S requires electricity and lighting at the workplace at voltages greater than 50V are required to comply with consensus standard NFPA 70 E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
